Steve Meyer Living Glass Art

Norb and His Bottle
2009
20.5" long, 12.5" wide and 10" tall Glass and copper foil

Octopus: glass, grinder-shaped, fused, and enamel fired. Composition by copper foil technique using copper and silver on backing. Bottle: 1/2" thick blown glass with mirrored bottom. Each piece of glass composing the octopus skin was kiln fired

three times...to fuse the blue glass to the grinder-shaped clear glass, then to fuse the frit for the skin, and finally to fire in the enamels. The frit used for the skin had a coefficient of expansion (COE) of 96 for 4 of the colors used, and a COE of 104 for

the 5th color. This difference in melting time (104 melts more slowly than 96) created the bumpy texture of an octopus's skin.
