This sculpture is composed of nearly 2500 individually cut pieces of glass employing the Copper foil technique. Crafted over a period of several years and approximately 1500 working hours. Each cut piece of glass has been beveled on the back side and foiled. This permits light to refract through the glass and creates a subtle gem-like quality for each piece of glass. The soldering technique used to join the pieces is unique in that it eliminates the soldered seams along the edges where the glass pieces meet, and joins them instead at the corners with a bead of solder. This was accomplished by beveling the corners of each piece, and leaves an appearance of "bumps" on the surface of the Octopus. The skin of an octopus is normally covered in small bumps. The yellow suckers which line the tentacles are cut from sheet glass 1/8 inch thick, and formed through grinding.
